FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Listed below are some frequently asked questions related to the services I provide. If you still have curiosities, please feel free to contact me. I am happy to speak with you!

You’ve got questions, and I’ve got answers.

DOES GOING TO THERAPY MEAN I’M CRAZY?

No, absolutely not! There has been stigma surrounding seeking professional help to deal with life’s challenges for a very long time, especially in the Black community and among other minoritized groups. Seeking therapy simply means you want to actively address difficulties and live a healthy life.

WHAT WILL THE FIRST SESSION LOOK LIKE?

I am very intentional about cultivating a strong therapeutic alliance with all clients. This means I take time to get to know you, your culture, your way of life, etc. before attempting to implement certain interventions that may or may not be most effective with you. I believe the real vehicle for change is rooted in the therapeutic relationship that I work to establish with all clients. The first session is all about us getting to know one another to help determine if I am the best fit for you. The first session typically lasts 90 to 120 minutes.

DOES GOING TO THERAPY MEAN THAT I NO LONGER TRUST GOD?

No, it does not. I am a Christian with a growing and active relationship with God. I believe that therapy is a tool that can be useful to help influence substantive change in the lives of people. You can have your faith and good therapy :).

HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO ATTEND THERAPY?

Every person is different and needs vary. The frequency of sessions are determined between clients and I. Sessions typically occur weekly or biweekly. The duration of therapy can also vary depending on the issues being addressed. These decisions will be explicitly discussed. I will provide my professional opinion, but the final decision will always be yours.

WILL EVERYTHING WE TALK ABOUT IN THERAPY BE KEPT CONFIDENTIAL?

Maintaining confidentiality is an essential aspect of my professional code of ethics. I take your privacy seriously, and before we even begin services I will cover the steps I take to protect client information. Unless you give me written consent, I am bound by law to only break confidentiality under the following circumstances:

Suspected violence, abuse, or neglect of children, the elderly, or people with disabilities.

Suspicion that a client may harm themselves or others.

I hope I’ve addressed some of your curiosities. Message me and book your free 15-minute consultation today.
